Week Six

Having never head of Visme as a presentation application, I decided I would give it a test drive. After signing up for the free version, I noticed that it allowed up to five graphic presentation to be created as a jpeg. These presentations can be posted on social media, inserted into documents, or emailed to others. I first explored the option of creating a presentation which would have been akin to making a Prezi or Google Slides. I noticed there were not as many ready-made template selections as the aforementioned. The designs also appeared to lacking visual hierarchy. However, there were much more choices if one purchases the Premium Package.

Next, I browsed their infographic presentations. Here there was a wider array of templates for the free version. I decided to explore making an infographic chart on the benefits of creating makerspaces in K-12 schools. Building a chart of any kind is relatively simple in this drag and drop application. It is even more user friendly if you chose one of the many prefabricated shells. They provide options for customizing pie charts, bar charts, flow charts, infographics, and even pyramids. They also have an assortment of graphic you can utilize in your design including data icons. There is the bonus feature of having the ability to add audio, video, and embed online content. It was very handy to change color themes at the click of one button.

In a K-12 environment, teachers can benefit from using this cloud-based application to organize their own content materials. Students can use this tool for class presentations, a word cloud tool, or for homework assignments. Visme has overall user-friendliness and provides a cost effective tool for students and teacher to make highly customizable presentations as digital or printed formats. The only limitation I can identify is the lack of choices in the free version and the fact that one must have a computer and internet to use it.
