Week Eleven

This week I screen captured an intro to Tinkercad tools tutorial. I imported the file into iMovie and explored the editing capacity. My 15 minute tutorial, with many lagging areas, was able to be reduced to a 7 minute post production clip. I was able to copy many versions on to the time line and clip out 8 minutes of video that were not needed by piecing together the most important parts. I really enjoyed using many of the features such as the titles which had various prefabricated animations. There were also transitions which could be used to fade into the next clip with animations such as rippling or dissolving.

For my tutorial I used a title animation called Pixie Dust with a 9 second ambient sound effect that punctuated the visual. I faded some simple music into the beginning of the audio for the first minute. After editing the lagging or unnecessary part of my footage, I decided to speed up a part with the fast forward feature where I was rendering with a brush tool. It was necessary to then mute this clip, as the sound was ill fitting at 20 times the speed. Next, I added some simple music to fill the void in sound. I then blended two soundtracks together by overlapping them on stacked timelines and fading them together by bending the volume. Near the end of my tutorial I faded both the visuals and sound.

IMovie was a very enjoyable program to work with. There are a generous amount of sound beds and effects which are built into the application. Some are song jingles while others are sound effects. Sound can be layered on the timeline, overlapped, faded in, or out. Clips can be muted and then sound can be layered into pieces and parts over top of the movie segments. Sections of video can be sped up or put into slow motion. Its user-friendliness caters to both teachers and students alike. Teachers can use this for enhanced learning, online, or blended classrooms to cater to the learning needs of each student. Students could use the program to document learning or for project based learning. The added bonus is that it comes as a free application with many Apple devices.
