Week Nine

This week I learned how to screen capture a lesson using QuickTime. It was relatively straight forward and easy to use. Firstly, open the QuickTime Player on the Mac. The screen video capture feature can be launched by selecting File/New Screen Recording. Next, a screen recording playhead box will open. Here the sound can be adjusted. When ready to record, press the red playhead button. Next you are presented with an option to record the full screen or a partial screen view by clicking and dragging in the area you would like to capture. When finished recording, click the stop button on the top right side of the screen control bar. For my test run, I created a video tutorial of Getting Started with Tinkercad.

This is a helpful tool which can be used to provide online video tutorials. Videos can then be uploaded to a YouTube channel and shared in an online classroom or as a web link. Students could also use this process to document their own learning, as a tool to create presentations or tutorial projects. The only real limitation is it may require many retakes to master the video with a professional dialog. I found QuickTime would be best used with a video editing program. Post production, pieces and parts could be clipped out or the sound edited as needed. Used in this capacity, one could splice together the best video parts, making a seemingly professional tutorial with all the finishing touches.
